Bigger or Better

Our first combined Young Men and Young Women activity.

We met at the mini park and divided into groups of about 5.
Each group was given a penny and a map of the ward.
Each map was marked with 4 different houses.  (I had previously called 20 homes and set this up)
Each group then had 30 minutes to go to each house.
At the first house they asked for something bigger or better than the penny.
At the second, something bigger or better than what they got at the first and so on.
I did tell the homes to give them something that did not have to be returned.
When everyone returned to the mini park we went over what each group had been given and prizes were awarded for the BIGGEST and for the BEST.

The biggest award went to one of the boys groups who came back with a canoe. (this item did have to be returned but...one of the boys in that group lived at the home of the canoe.
The best award went to another of the boys groups who came back with a life size cut out of Johnny Dep.
(the girls fought over who would take this home, the boys who got it wanted to shoot it with a BB Gun)

Some of the other things they received:
Small box of frosted flakes
Golf Tees
1 liter of Root Beer
Dog Toy
Little Tykes wagon with a semi broken wheel (it still rolled)
Vacuum
Cedar Fence Post
Betty Crocker cookie mix
LARGE cardboard box
Big stuffed teddy bear
BIG stuffed monkey
Box drink
Frame
Beanie hat
Mechanical hand
and more.

After awards were given a member of the Bishopric spoke for 3-5 minutes about what is truly bigger or better in our lives.  Things like family, the gospel, our relationship with the savior etc.
Refreshments were served.
It seemed like the youth had a good time and the whole activity took only about 1 to 1 and 1/2 hour.

I am definitely glad I called all the homes beforehand and gave them a heads up.  It made it go really smooth.
I would recommend this activity to friends. :)
